How to Choose a Dentist in Karachi: A Patient's Guide

Most Karachiites go to a dentist only when something hurts badly enough to have no choice. But the economics work against you: the ignored infection becomes a root canal, the root canal becomes an extraction, and at every stage the bill gets larger.

Qualifications to Look For

All practising dentists must hold BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and be registered with the Pakistan Medical Commission. For specialised procedures ask specifically about specialist training. Clinics affiliated with Aga Khan University Hospital or Dow University dental departments train some of the city's most competent practitioners.

Areas with Strong Dental Clinics

DHA and Clifton: Highest concentration of well-equipped clinics with panoramic X-ray machines and proper sterilisation. Look on Khayaban-e-Ittehad and Khayaban-e-Shahbaz.

Gulshan and PECHS: Strong mid-tier clinics at 20–30% lower prices. Google reviews are the most reliable filter.

Red Flags

• Instruments not visibly sterilised in sealed pouches
• Procedure recommendations before X-ray review
• Pressure to approve expensive treatment in 10-minute appointments
• No post-procedure follow-up or emergency contact
